Our Propel Welfare & Housing Traineeship begins

Jun 3, 2024 | Employment, News, Partnerships

We have officially launched our Propel traineeship! This is a collective initiative, with our partners: The Baytree Centre, Indoamerican, Refugee and Migrant Association (IRMO), Latin American Women’s Rights Service (LAWRS) and the Southwark Law Centre. Together we aim to grow and develop the advice workforce in our local communities, in response to the current shortage of qualified advice workers in the charity sector.

We are delighted to share that we have successfully recruited a Trainee Housing and Welfare Adviser. This position is based at High Trees and the Southwark Law Centre, with support provided by the High Trees Employment & Careers team. The role involves full on-the-job training on how to provide high-quality, person-centred welfare and housing advice to our beneficiaries. It also includes the opportunity to acquire a Level 3 qualification in Information, Advice and Guidance, allowing the trainee to move into meaningful employment as a Welfare and Housing Adviser.

We asked our new Trainee Adviser about what they’re most looking forward to in this role:

“I am most looking forward to learning how to assist people who are facing housing and welfare needs and providing valuable support to the local community. It will be exciting to start putting my skills and knowledge gained from university to use in practical scenarios.”

This collective programme aims to strengthen the advice provision in community organisations, developing the sector to ensure that everyone can access the support they need. The Propel initiative was launched with the support from London Funders, collaborating with City Bridge Trust and London Legal Support Trust. It’s also part of our Place for All partnership.
