New research project exploring young people’s mental health in Lambeth

We’re excited to launch a new research project, aimed at understanding the mental health needs of young people in Lambeth and how youth and play organisations can better support them.

Youth organisations are often the first point of contact for a young person during a time of crisis. However, there are challenges both in capacity and skills, to providing the right support. That’s why, in collaboration with organisations from the Building Young Brixton (BYB) partnership, we’re listening to young people to understand what type of mental health support they need, and how we can work together to bridge these gaps and provide better services.

Over 120 young people, parents and practitioners in Lambeth have been able to share their views on the challenges and potential solutions through surveys, interviews and workshops. These have included workshops for young people designed and delivered by peer researchers from the Lambeth Peer Action Collective (LPAC).

The findings will be used to co-design and develop new initiatives that strengthen community-based responses, enhance collaboration between youth organisations and mental health services, and improve mental health support for young people in Lambeth.

This research project is funded by Maudsley Charity as part of their Building Brighter Future fund.
