At the end of the last academic year, almost 50 High Trees learners took part in activities designed to raise their environmental awareness. These sessions were delivered as part of the Lambeth climate literacy programme, to develop awareness and skills as ecological citizens.
As part of our exciting end of year celebrations, learners delved into actions that are good versus those that are harmful for the earth. They explored ways to become better ‘ecological citizens,’ emphasizing the importance of recycling, reducing waste, community involvement, volunteering, caring for natural resources and planting pollinator plants.
The practical workshops, held during these celebrations, reinforced these vital messages. We were thrilled to be joined by the Remakery, a Brixton-based co-operative dedicated to promoting sustainable practices. They led sewing and soap-making workshops, which our learners loved! These activities provided a fantastic opportunity to develop new skills and learn how to creatively reuse materials.
We look forward to incorporating more environmental and ecological learning into our curriculum this year!
