We recently hosted the Building Young Brixton (BYB) summer party at the Tulse Hill Adventure Playground, and it was a big success! Over 90 young people came together to celebrate the start of summer. Building Young Brixton is a partnership of ten Lambeth-based organisations working together to inspire and empower young people in Brixton. BYB and its partners offer a wide range of opportunities, services and support, enabling young people to build the lives that they want.
The party was planned by the current cohort of BYB Young Leaders and featured lots of fun activities suggested by young people from across the partnership. These included monster stomp, tie-dye and races. Young Leaders from previous cohorts also came along and presented the BYB Opportunities Map, letting young people know about the diverse range of services available for them through BYB and its partner organisations.
The Young Leaders enjoyed planning and executing the event and incorporating suggestions from other young people throughout the process. After the event, one of the Young Leaders said, “I really enjoyed leading the event and making the ‘you said, we did wall’. It showed that we were actually listening to the young people’s opinions, not just asking them and doing nothing.”
The young people who attended were thrilled with the variety of games and food available, they also particularly enjoyed the bouncy castle and music. 86% of the young people we spoke to rated the BYB summer party as either good or great.
