Our Building Young Brixton Young Leaders had a busy weekend full of team-building activities, designed to challenge and inspire them. The Young Leaders programme is a paid opportunity for young people in Lambeth to ensure that youth voice sits at the heart of the Building Young Brixton partnership. The Young Leaders facilitate listening events to understand what is important to young people across the partnership and make recommendations on how BYB services can respond to these priorities.
“This has been a really good experience and I’ve learned valuable skills like good communication”
The activities at Hindleap Warren Outdoor Centre helped them further develop their communication skills and included an underground tunnel challenge to build up their trust and a high ropes activity that pushed them outside of their comfort zone! It was great to see the Young Leaders cheer each other on and work together to complete tasks and overcome challenges.
“Being a Young Leader has been really fun and I’ve learned a lot like having patience and good communication.”
The residential was also a chance for the group to come together and reflect on their journeys throughout the Building Young Brixton programme. They shared stories, insights and aspirations for the future. For many, taking part in the Young Leaders programme and going on the residential has been a great opportunity to meet new people and make new friends.
The Building Young Brixton partnership is looking forward to welcoming 2 new cohorts of Young Leaders this year, with an upcoming October residential to bring them all together!
