Led by High Trees, Building Young Brixton is an exciting collaboration of ten local organisations, all working together to meet the needs of children and young people in Lambeth. The partners deliver high quality services that respond to the uniqueness of each young person’s needs and circumstances and practitioners from across the partnership meet regularly to share best practice and learning.
This month, High Trees’ Head of Children, Young People and Families kicked off the year with a Share and Learn session focusing on strategies for supporting young people with Autism, Learning Disabilities and ADHD. The session provided practitioners, managers and volunteers from across the partnership with practical strategies and tools to support neuro-diverse young people, including helpful visual communication aids.
Staff left the session not only equipped with new techniques but also with a deeper understanding of how they can better support neuro-diverse young people within their roles. One participant commented:
“I learned about how I can structure sessions in other ways such as ‘now and next boards’. This will help me be knowledgeable in my role because I can make the space more inclusive for young people who have ADHD and autism.”
Further Share and Learn sessions are planned to take place throughout 2024, promising more opportunities for growth, collaboration and creating positive impact for young people in Lambeth!
